To give greater focus to this activity the Shipping Division was merged in February 2001 into a Joint Venture company MATHESON KEELLS ENTERPRISES PVT. LTD. in partnership with JOHN KEELLS GROUP of Sri Lanka. The Joint Venture is concentrating on the following activities with plans for aggressive growth in South Indian Ports on the East & West coasts.

Steamer Agency: State-of-the-art infrastructure, modern communication systems. A team of professionals handling container and tanker vessel work. And the agents for leading international lines (under the Singapore and Mauritius flags) and major Indian Shipping lines. All bear testimony to MKEL's expertise in this field. Apart from this, the Company offers it's services in general consultancy and agency services for crew change and emergency landing, as also liaison services for consultation/ dry docking and repairs.

Freight Forwarding: MB Shipping was one of the first few companies to be granted Customs House Agencies Licence (CHA) in Cochin (It's also licensed to cover the port at Tuticorin and the ICDs at Bangalore & Coimbatore). MKEL handles C&F for a large volume of containerized and break bulk cargo for export / import for a wide range of clients. In particular handling over dimensional cargo is one of the major strengths of MKEL.

Protection & Indemnity: MKEL acts as a correspondent for twenty-five Clubs across the world and is therefore in a position to offer its services to its customers. The list of Principals include the most prestigious Clubs in the UK and the continent.
